George III. of the United Kingdom
Born George William Frederick, Prince of Great Britain and Ireland and styled Prince of Wales in 1751. Succeded as George III as King of Great Britain and King of Ireland in 1760 after the death of his grandfather. After the union of both countries in 1801 he became King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He was concurrently prince-elector of Hanover and was promoted King of Hanover in 1814. His eldest son, George, Prince of Wales, ruled as Prince Regent from 1810, when George III suffered from permanent mental illness, most likely resulting from porphyria.
