Amelia of the United Kingdom
Princess Amelia of the United Kingdom
Daughter of George III. King of the United Kingdom (1738-1820) and Charlotte, Princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744-1818)
Born: Royal Lodge, Windsor 7. Aug 1783
Christened: St. James’s Palace, London 18. Sep 1783
Godparents:
The Prince of Wales (later King George IV. of the United Kingdom, her brother)
Princess Charlotte, Princess Royal of the United Kingdom (her sister)
Princess Augusta of the United Kingdom (her sister)
At the time of her death Princess Amelia was in love with Hon. Sir Charles FitzRoy (1762-1831), son of the 1st Baron Southampton and one of her father’s equerries, whom she could not legally marry due to the provisions of the Royal Marriages Act. She apparently hoped that her brother, the Prince of Wales would consent to her marriage if he became Prince Regent, but this only happened after her death.
Died: Augusta Lodge, Windsor 2. Nov 1810 from tuberculosis
Buried: St. George’s Chapel, Windsor
