Son of Albert, Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1819-1861) and Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom (1819-1901)

Married: St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle 27. Apr 1882 Helene, Princess of Waldeck-Pyrmont (1861-1922), daughter of Georg Viktor, Sovereign Prince (Fürst)  of Waldeck-Pyrmont (1831-1893) and Helene, Princess of Nassau (1831-1888).

• Princess Alice of Albany (1883-1981) m. 1904 Alexander Prinz von Teck, cr. 1st Earl of Athlone (1874-1957)

• Prince Charles Edward, Duke of Albany, succeeded as Carl Eduard, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1900 (1884-1954) m. 1905 Viktoria Adelheid, Princess of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1885-1970)

The Duke of Albany suffered from haemophilia.

Died: Cannes, France 28. Mar 1884 after he had injured his knee when he slipped and fell. Apparently his death was caused by the morphin he had been given and the wine he had been served for supper.
