Wilhelm I. Friedrich Ludwig, King of Prussia since 1861, German Emperor since 1871

Son of Friedrich Wilhelm III. King of Prussia (1770-1840) and  his first wife Luise, Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1776-1810)

Born: Berlin, 22. Mar 1797

Wilhelm had to renounce his great love, his second cousin once removed, Princess Elisa Radziwill because the court did not deem her noble enough to be wife of a Prussian prince. She never married.

Married:  Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin 11. Jun 1829 Augusta, Princess of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1811-1890)

• Friedrich III. German Emperor (1831-1888) m. 1858 Victoria, Princess of Great Britain and Ireland (1840-1901)
• Luise, Princess of Prussia (1838-1923) m. 1856 Friedrich I. Grand Duke of Baden (1826-1907)

Died: Berlin, 9. Mar 1888

Buried: Royal Mausoleum, Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin
